FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

GE Announces VaporStar* Evaporation Boats

GE is pleased to introduce its new VaporStar intermetallic composite (IMC) evaporation boats for metallizing applications, the latest addition to the Metallist* line of evaporation boats. The enhanced portfolio of products, including the new VaporStar boats and the Classic* and StabilizerPlus* IMC boats already available from GE, offers customers a range of performance and price options to optimize their vacuum metallizing operations.

VaporStar boats are designed to offer outstanding ease of use and an increase in boat life. In development and validation testing with over ten different metallizers, VaporStar boats delivered up to 65% longer life than typical 3-part boats and up to 45% longer life than typical 2-part boats. Operators consistently reported improved plate uniformity and aluminum puddle stability versus existing products over the complete life cycle of the VaporStar boats. The outstanding thermal shock resistance of VaporStar boats results in a better resistance to cracking during initial heating. The superior wettability of the boats (twice the wettability of standard boats, based on quantitative testing in GE's labs) continues throughout their life, even after the formation of slag and grooves, which result in metal spatter in typical boats.

GE worked with customers throughout its development of the VaporStar boats, and conducted extensive validation with customers to substantiate that the benefits delivered by VaporStar boats were significant and present in real-world operating conditions, not just in a controlled laboratory environment. GE is committed to helping customers discover the benefits of VaporStar boat technology in their processes, offering training on the use of VaporStar boats, benchmarking studies to define baseline performance of existing boats, and tests to demonstrate the improvements possible through VaporStar boats.

VaporStar boats are now available from GE worldwide in typical resistivity ranges required for vacuum metallizing processes. Contact your local GE Advanced Materials, Quartz representative or send an email to geacinfo@ge.com. An application specialist will contact you to discuss how VaporStar may deliver performance benefits and cost savings in your metallizing operation.
